After some quick slips and bumps on the ice the babies were already crying for a retreat to the car and even the older girls were shivering and complaining. Darrick found some remains of a shattered sled and attempted a couple runs on the hill behind them, I even tried once. I made the mistake of using my un-gloved hands as brakes and the ice did as good a job as sandpaper would have done coming down. I got these 4 to stand just long enough for a quick picture and then we made a hasty exit. Here is a close up of them, particularly dear Katlyn.
So in the end, it wasn't a very successful trip, however, now we know where to retreat when it is 120 degrees for hikes or camping- AND we know where to find snow when we get properly prepared with snow attire and sleds. I've also been discovered some great ideas for fun with the kids (away from the glamour and attractions of the strip) like a local dairy farm that you can tour and get ice-cream samples, a bread making place where you can make your own bread, a chocolate factory, and other fun (FREE) places.
I promised to keep posted about our foster baby so I wanted to pass along that we've been told Kaleigh will have a home to go to at the beginning of March. It is nice to know so far in advance what the plans for her will be, sometimes it can be the same day. Hopefully it will help make her transition easier.

What a difference elevation can make. At least you found a new place to venture to.
Its nice that you have a place to go not too far away that has pine trees, from the pics it does look a little bit like WA, after living here, I don't ever want to leave! Your kids look so cold :) I bet they will miss Kaleigh when she goes to her new family, you are wonderful people for being foster parents, it takes special families to do such a wonderful service to these kids in need! It takes me back to when we were kids and remember the foster kids that you guys had living in your home.
Krista, I found your blog through Shalie's. I hope you don't mind. Kaitlyn is the spitting image of you when you were in 1st grade (I bet you hear that all the time, I hear the same thing about Anna).
Sorry your camping trip was so cold :)
You seem so happy!!!!!
Oh, and your yard looks great!!!!
Looks cold!
It's so funny to read your book list because I've read within the last couple years about 75% of them! I loved the Twilight books of course, the dean hughes books were my post baby books when I was nursing, and I just finished the goose girl and all those by Shannon Hale, loved them!! We must be soul sisters :) That's great that Kaleigh will have a home soon!! Probably mixed emotions, but so good for her to settle in somewhere permanent. Oh, and I had a miscarriage. No fun, but I'm ok :) Still keeping that on the down low around here FYI
We are so disappointed that we didn't contact you earlier. I'm going to blame it on James :). But--we are trying to figure out if we can make it down in April. James doesn't think it will work out--but he's trying to talk everyone into coming to stay with us in Colorado instead. We have room for everyone now. It would be kind of fun to play in Denver--but Darrick might not like that. Is there any chance you guys would consider it though? You would have your own room with your own bathroom....:)Rockies games--ZOO--lots of fun!!!We promise to come see you guys next time in Vegas!!!!!
